Our oldest kid, who is introduced at the end of Hindsight, is a graduate from UCSC.
Isaac is a graduate of UCSC and recently finished his MA at Cal State LA.
Carmen graduated from UCLA in June 2026.
I started medical school in my 30s, and moved to the Caribbean with my husband and 3 kids. It's been quite an adventure, and I'm glad they went on this wild ride with me. I trained in Family Medicine and work as a Hospitalist. I'm also the Family Medicine Clerkship Director at a medical school in Los Angeles. When I'm not working, I'm pretty busy doing everything else.
In my free time, I love to help out at My Friend's Place in Hollywood. I recently joined the Board of Directors (2022) as their first alumni member.
Prior volunteer work (pre-pandemic): I've also traveled overseas to volunteer in Dominica after Hurricane Maria, I spent a week in Haiti over the summer in 2018 (our return trip was postponed this year due to political unrest), and I volunteered with a great group of pre-health students from UC Irvine - they go down to Mexico every month to help run a free clinic.
Author of numerous books, including my award-winning memoir Hindsight: Coming of Age on the Streets of Hollywood.
